I tell people that I had in the 8th grade in 1958 I was standing up in front of the class giving them my science presentation and telling them I wanted to be a solarologist. My science fair project I had a big solar cooker made out of card board and tin foil. The next year I did one with corala algae and composting that in to methane and generating electricity from that, so I was really interested into it a long long time ago. The prices were prohibitive and the products really were not available anyway. So I say this an I was really intrigued and the Cary Hayes and REC Solar showed up at Costco. My wife had seen him and and she said he still might be there and I got home from work and Costco was open a little later. And she took me down there and she met him. OK, I gotta do it. And from then it was September of 2007 and I thought I would just put in my application to the Architectural Committee (Rock Creek HOA) because I had to do that for the yard and the deck and you are supposed get a 45 day turn around. Well when I didn’t get it by October – I went to inquire, I was told you can show up at the next meeting by that time – I check and gave them a little more time back in December or November I think they were skipping December and going in …

There are 5 main components of wind power…

1. The rotor is the set of rotating blades designed to capture the wind.
2. The rotation of the blades brings power to the generator.
3. The turbine is attached on the rotor. It stores the energy that your home will use.
4. The tail is located opposite the rotor. It tracks the direction of the wind source.
5. The tower raises the turbine, rotor and tail up into the air to receive the most amount of wind possible.
6. The governor is the mechanism that controls the production of energy. This is comparable to the transformer you can see on electric posts.

If you are interested in installing wind turbines on your property, you must make sure that the local zoning in your area allows wind turbines. You must also ensure that there is a reasonably good source of wind on most days. A wide and open space of at least 1 acre, would be ideal for wind turbines. As a guideline, if you are paying more than $150 on your monthly electric bill, then it may be a good option for you.

Solar Power…

There are 6 main advantages to be had by installing solar panels on your home’s roof…

1. Solar panels are lightweight, safe and most of all, easy to install.
2. This is an important fact in order to place them above your roof.
3. Your home’s roof is also susceptible to UV exposure. The installation of solar panels helps to eliminate this. Your roof will also be protected from other  adverse weather conditions.
4. The Solar panels also contribute to keeping your house well insulated.
5. They provide an extra covering and, surprisingly, enable you to save as much as 30% on heating expenses.
6. Drilling holes in your roof can be very risky, it can cause leaks, whereas the interlocking solar panels eliminate this risk.

Solar panel designs vary a lot and it is fairly easy to find the perfect design of panel that will suit any roof type and size. In other words, you can get find the perfect design of solar panel no matter what the size and shape of your roof is.  There are so many to choose from.

Solar panels can be installed without requiring you to modify your roof in any way. They are very adaptable.

Solar power can tremendously help you cut down the cost of your electricity bill. The only main consideration is the amount of sunshine that you receive in the part of the world that you live in.  How much sun you get also depends on where the panels are, how much – if any – shade they might get during the day, and what angle and direction you can mount them at. To work best, solar panels should be aimed South, and tilted at about 15 to 40 degrees.

Solar panels make power from the sun, so no sun, no power. In the US that can vary from a yearly average of about 4 to 6 hours per day, so careful consideration should be taken when deciding if this type of home energy generation system will suitable for where you live.
