With the world population constantly increasing and the Earth’s natural resources depleting, it is inevitable that energy costs are going to increase year on year. With this in mind, some homeowners have decided to try to curb the increases in their energy bills by installing solar panels to their homes. Although the initial outlay for solar panels is not that great, installation costs can be much more than expected, but having solar panels professionally fitted is not the only answer, you could attempt to fit them yourself, but is it worth it?

Aside from the costs involved, having professional installation companies fit your solar panels has many advantages over doing the work yourself. For one, the work carried out is going to come with a warranty period which means that if you discover faults in the installation of your solar panels, you can request the fault be remedied for free during this period. Also, experience in fitting solar panels in different situations is invaluable and it means less possible mistakes in the installation of the solar panels.

While the installation process is relatively straightforward, it is not that easy. First of all, most solar panels are installed onto the roofs of properties to get the highest possible average of daily sunlight, which could be difficult for some people to even attempt. Also, there are certain steps that should be taken in order to complete the job successfully. Luckily, most panels come with installation guides and if not, there is a wealth of information on the internet to help you.

Having professional solar panel installers fit your solar panels will cost a large amount of money, possibly in the tens of thousands of dollars depending on the size of the installation, while doing it yourself may well end up being free as long as you have the right tools for the job. By hiring professionals, you will effectively be increasing the payback time of the solar panels, making the installation less financially beneficial.

Ultimately, you need to use your own judgment on this decision. If you trust your own abilities enough to tackle the installation, then it may be worth your while doing so. While if your physical circumstances limit you from carrying out such demanding work, then it is advisable to call in the professionals. Some electrical engineering experience will be extremely beneficial, as will DIY experience and the enthusiasm to learn new techniques.

The effort by businesses and individuals to become eco-friendly is currently in full swing. People receive rebates for recycling and purchasing energy efficient vehicles and appliances. Some people are even going the extra mile and relying less on fossil fuels and more on alternative energy to provide electricity. One popular way to do so is by utilizing solar panels, and following are some tips on how to install them on your roof.

There are a couple of different positioning techniques involving solar panels. They may be flush with the roof or tilted up at an angle. Many professional installers suggest applying solar panels to your home when you are having it reroofed. It makes it that much easier to place the panels where they need to be when the trusses and rafters are exposed and can be cut to shape if needed. Shingles and tar paper can then be cut to fit around the solar panels as well. Because the panels are fit snugly into place using this process, the possibility of leakage is greatly reduced.

To actually mount solar panels on your roof and you are not interested in installing them flush, you need to locate the rafters. A stud finder does this quite well. Drill a pilot hole into the rafter to keep it from splintering. Use a laser sight or chalk to install each subsequent panel mount in a straight line. With lag bolts, fasten the mounts to the rafter using the pilot hole previously drilled. Upon the mounts, place the rails that will hold the solar panels in place. 3/8” bolts should be used to fasten the rails down. It is advisable to use stainless steel fasteners for all mounting purposes so that water does not rust them out.

The actual installation of solar panels on your roof is not all that difficult. There are, however, some related issues to bear in mind such as sunlight exposure. The idea is to absorb as much sunlight as possible, so be sure that surrounding structures do not inhibit sunlight collection. The panels should also be directly under the sun at noon. If any branches hang over the panels and block rays, they should be cleared away.

Installing solar panels on your roof is a good way to lower your energy bills and rely less on fossil fuels. Many people have been doing this for years. You can too by following some easy-to-follow tips.

Are you tired of paying for your high home energy bill month after month and would like see some significant changes and actually experience some savings?

This really is possible, and the solution is to invest on one or more home energy generation systems. Then you can really cut those bills down and utilize alternative energy around you just waiting to be tapped anytime.  Among all types of alternative energy that can be used, wind energy and solar energy are the most common.

A home energy generation system will provide you with the best way to get the maximum financial freedom on home energy. It’s true, you do have to invest some money first but it is all worth every dollar you spend.

By installing an alternative new home energy system you can spare yourself from the current cost of home energy and the future increases that will undoubtedly occur. An important added bonus is that investing on a home energy generation system will also help the environment for it will only uses harmless and clean sources of energy.

Wind Energy

wind-turbines2A well known fact is that wind is very abundant in many parts of the world, thus, many homeowners can easily capitalize on the use of wind as a source of home energy.

As the cost energy production through fuel and oil has skyrocketed for the last few years, the clean, safe and free air would be the better choice of the future. It is possible that the main source of energy in years to come could be the wind.

One drawback, however,is that wind speed can vary on a daily basis. One day, the wind will blow strong, but then the next day, the wind may not be able to make your turbine spin.

Even in the breeziest places, you can never tell for sure when the next strong wind blow will occur. Although this is one disadvantage of using wind power, but wind patterns generally do exist. Usually it is said that summer brings less wind while winter brings strong gusts of wind.

There are 5 main components of wind power…

  1. The rotor is the set of rotating blades designed to capture the wind.
  2. The rotation of the blades brings power to the generator.
  3. The turbine is attached on the rotor. It stores the energy that your home will use.
  4. The tail is located opposite the rotor. It tracks the direction of the wind source.
  5. The tower raises the turbine, rotor and tail up into the air to receive the most amount of wind possible.
  6. The governor is the mechanism that controls the production of energy. This is comparable to the transformer you can see on electric posts.

If you are interested in installing wind turbines on your property, you must make sure that the local zoning in your area allows wind turbines. You must also ensure that there is a reasonably good source of wind on most days. A wide and open space of at least 1 acre, would be ideal for wind turbines. As a guideline, if you are paying more than $150 on your monthly electric bill, then it may be a good option for you.

Solar Power

residential-solar-power3There are 6 main advantages to be had by installing solar panels on your home’s roof…

  1. Solar panels are lightweight, safe and most of all, easy to install.
  2. This is an important fact in order to place them above your roof.
  3. Your home’s roof is also susceptible to UV exposure. The installation of solar panels helps to eliminate this. Your roof will also be protected from other  adverse weather conditions.
  4. The Solar panels also contribute to keeping your house well insulated.
  5. They provide an extra covering and, surprisingly, enable you to save as much as 30% on heating expenses.
  6. Drilling holes in your roof can be very risky, it can cause leaks, whereas the interlocking solar panels eliminate this risk.

Solar panel designs vary a lot and it is fairly easy to find the perfect design of panel that will suit any roof type and size. In other words, you can get find the perfect design of solar panel no matter what the size and shape of your roof is.  There are so many to choose from.

Solar panels can be installed without requiring you to modify your roof in any way. They are very adaptable.

Solar power can tremendously help you cut down the cost of your electricity bill. The only main consideration is the amount of sunshine that you receive in the part of the world that you live in.  How much sun you get also depends on where the panels are, how much – if any – shade they might get during the day, and what angle and direction you can mount them at. To work best, solar panels should be aimed South, and tilted at about 15 to 40 degrees.

Solar panels make power from the sun, so no sun, no power. In the US that can vary from a yearly average of about 4 to 6 hours per day, so careful consideration should be taken when deciding if this type of home energy generation system will suitable for where you live.

Have you been wondering what exactly solar power is? Perhaps you’ve heard the term but never quite understood what it was all about. Well, here you will learn more about what solar power actually is and how it works, so keep reading…

Basically, solar power is energy that is actually harnessed from the sun. Although the sun is millions of miles away from earth, if we had the ability to harness all the energy coming from the sun, there is more than enough power there to provide all the energy we need for the entire earth. In fact, there is enough energy to provide plenty of energy for 10,000 earths. While you can use solar power for a variety of appliances and other items, you have to realize that this is different than using this power to produce heat.

domestic solar powerThere are two different principles that are used with solar power. If you want to produce hot air or hot fluids, then solar thermal principles are used. However, if you want to product electricity, photovoltaic principles are used instead. If you want to produce solar power, there are four components that are needed, including a batter, a charge controller, a solar panel, and an inverter.

It is the solar panels that actually get the radiation from the sun and use it to charge up the battery. Then, the charge regulator actually makes sure that the battery charges as it should. Of course, probably the most important pieces of equipment are going to be the solar panels and usually they output energy in watts. These panels can be wired in a variety of ways, although usually parallel or series wiring is done to either increase the amperage or the voltage.
