Are you tired of paying for your high home energy bill month after month and would like see some significant changes and actually experience some savings?
This really is possible, and the solution is to invest on one or more home energy generation systems. Then you can really cut those bills down and utilize alternative energy around you just waiting to be tapped anytime. Among all types of alternative energy that can be used, wind energy and solar energy are the most common.
A home energy generation system will provide you with the best way to get the maximum financial freedom on home energy. It’s true, you do have to invest some money first but it is all worth every dollar you spend.
By installing an alternative new home energy system you can spare yourself from the current cost of home energy and the future increases that will undoubtedly occur. An important added bonus is that investing on a home energy generation system will also help the environment for it will only uses harmless and clean sources of energy.
Wind Energy…
A well known fact is that wind is very abundant in many parts of the world, thus, many homeowners can easily capitalize on the use of wind as a source of home energy.
As the cost energy production through fuel and oil has skyrocketed for the last few years, the clean, safe and free air would be the better choice of the future. It is possible that the main source of energy in years to come could be the wind.
One drawback, however,is that wind speed can vary on a daily basis. One day, the wind will blow strong, but then the next day, the wind may not be able to make your turbine spin.
Even in the breeziest places, you can never tell for sure when the next strong wind blow will occur. Although this is one disadvantage of using wind power, but wind patterns generally do exist. Usually it is said that summer brings less wind while winter brings strong gusts of wind.
There are 5 main components of wind power…
- The rotor is the set of rotating blades designed to capture the wind.
- The rotation of the blades brings power to the generator.
- The turbine is attached on the rotor. It stores the energy that your home will use.
- The tail is located opposite the rotor. It tracks the direction of the wind source.
- The tower raises the turbine, rotor and tail up into the air to receive the most amount of wind possible.
- The governor is the mechanism that controls the production of energy. This is comparable to the transformer you can see on electric posts.
If you are interested in installing wind turbines on your property, you must make sure that the local zoning in your area allows wind turbines. You must also ensure that there is a reasonably good source of wind on most days. A wide and open space of at least 1 acre, would be ideal for wind turbines. As a guideline, if you are paying more than $150 on your monthly electric bill, then it may be a good option for you.
There are 6 main advantages to be had by installing solar panels on your home’s roof…
- Solar panels are lightweight, safe and most of all, easy to install.
- This is an important fact in order to place them above your roof.
- Your home’s roof is also susceptible to UV exposure. The installation of solar panels helps to eliminate this. Your roof will also be protected from other adverse weather conditions.
- The Solar panels also contribute to keeping your house well insulated.
- They provide an extra covering and, surprisingly, enable you to save as much as 30% on heating expenses.
- Drilling holes in your roof can be very risky, it can cause leaks, whereas the interlocking solar panels eliminate this risk.
Solar panel designs vary a lot and it is fairly easy to find the perfect design of panel that will suit any roof type and size. In other words, you can get find the perfect design of solar panel no matter what the size and shape of your roof is. There are so many to choose from.
Solar panels can be installed without requiring you to modify your roof in any way. They are very adaptable.
Solar power can tremendously help you cut down the cost of your electricity bill. The only main consideration is the amount of sunshine that you receive in the part of the world that you live in. How much sun you get also depends on where the panels are, how much – if any – shade they might get during the day, and what angle and direction you can mount them at. To work best, solar panels should be aimed South, and tilted at about 15 to 40 degrees.
Solar panels make power from the sun, so no sun, no power. In the US that can vary from a yearly average of about 4 to 6 hours per day, so careful consideration should be taken when deciding if this type of home energy generation system will suitable for where you live.
In Europe it has become more and more popular for people to voluntarily and also enthusiastically adopt the concept of personal solar energy production and harnessing the power of the wind. The glint of solar panels on the roofs or the whirr of a wind turbine in a backyard is so common a sight, that you’d soon stop noticing.
This is all happening because the local governments in some areas of Europe will pay homeowners the best rates possible for the electricity they supply to the grid, often 4 or 5 times what a utility company would get.
This method of encouraging people to switch to solar power or wind power has been so successful that counties and districts across the US are now beginning to take note. Last year, Gainesville, Florida became one of the first to convert to the European model.
The great prices that homeowners get for every unit of power they produce, encourages them to invest in these sometimes costly installations and city councils have been enthusiastically backing these solar energy production efforts.
One place in America that would really welcome this scheme would have to be Hawaii, where the cost of electricity is so expensive, that people have been desperate to find alternatives to regular power.
In Europe, where the plan was originally born, the name of the plan is the feed-in tariff. Their government just tells the utility company that market rates do not apply to this green solar power. As a result, the people who take the plunge benefit from getting cash rebates and tax breaks too. Under the feed-in tariff plan, you just continue to get paid forever.
So, as a twist, what all the “help the environment” preaching in the world could never do for solar power, a little extra payment always seems extra successful!
www.solardave.com SolarDave: Please tell me about your solar panel system and how you saved some money? Adam Stevenson: The total of the system and materials was K. The use of solar panels in residences has proved to be the best and most cost-efficient alternative for utility power. However, the use of solar power has yet to reach its full potential in the residential market.
Recent advances in technology can possibly change this, as the industry has seen opportunities to create solar panels with new designs, in terms of both aesthetics and functionality.

Aesthetically-pleasing designs
Solar power has only recently been given a great deal of attention. As a result, residential homes built 10, 20, or 30 years ago were not constructed in such a way that solar panels could be later added if the resident family decides to install some.
Previously, solar panels were very thick and had to be mounted with out-of-place brackets on top of existing roofs. Fortunately, the solar panel manufacturing industry has recently realized that poor aesthetics is one of the main reasons why solar power has not completely made its way into the residential market.
New panels are hardly noticeable. The tiles are seamlessly integrated into the existing roofs of residential homes, which achieve a very elegant look. The rise in number of solar installations in the U.S. rose by an amazing 45% in 2007 and is widely attributed to the creation of more aesthetically-pleasing panel designs.
There are a number of companies that have already come up with more aesthetically-pleasing solar panel designs. The Sun Power Corporation, for example, the leading U.S. solar panel manufacturer, has created some panels that are compatible with Mediterranean-styled clay tiles and flat roof tiles. Lumeta, another manufacturer, has design panels that are awaiting industry certification.
The panels made by both Sun Power and Lumeta are made from silicon. The market will soon see thinner panels made of copper indium gallium selenide (CIGS). As of now, however, such panels are less efficient than the currently existing silicon ones. Sometime in the near future, these thin-film panels are expected to dominate residential use by becoming a standard part of the building process.
Highly functional designs
One example of a new, more functional solar panel design is that recently designed by the Georgia Tech Research Institute. This innovative design allows the panels to absorb more sunlight, enabling them to produce up to 60 times more current. This new design makes use of nano-towers that add significant surface area to the solar panels, giving the particles of light from the sun more chances to strike the part of the cell that produces electricity.
However, these new panels still have a couple of kinks yet to be worked out. These new panel designs have too much resistance in their cells, resulting in an inability to generate the kind of electricity needed.
Jud Ready, senior research engineer at the Georgia Tech Research Institute and creator of this new solar panel design, is determined to work on the design and modify its features to resolve the difficulties within it. The US Air Force is currently partially sponsoring the research in high hopes that these smaller and more efficient solar panels will replace old, bulky ones and can eventually be used to power satellites and spacecrafts in the future.

So you are thinking about making an investment in Solar Power for your home or business? Well the time is right as there are multiple reasons why it makes sense now but also, it is important to know that the benefits of Solar Systems will increase over time.
1. SOLAR PANELS SAVE MONEY EVERY MONTH AND FOREVER Solar will save you money on electricity costs and protect you from future rate increases.
Electricity rates are at an all time high and and are showing no signs of going down. Switching to solar will increasing your financial independence by locking in your future electric bills.
2. SOLAR ELECTRIC INCREASES HOME VALUES Solar Electric increases your home value and can even more then the cost of the solar electric system itself.
This 1998 study by ICF Consulting concluded that saving $1 per year on energy costs certainly adds $20 to a home’s value or more. A saving of $1,000 per year increases a home’s value by $20,000.
3. THINK OF IT AS A CONSERVATIVE INVESTMENT In this current market, returns on a solar electric investment may be higher than your other investments.
These Massachusetts residents LuAnn Kuder and Maureen O’Brien found they “beat” Wall Street by investing in solar. Over the past 100 years, the stock market has returned just below 10% per year as an average. Solar electric ROI likely beats this, especially in states with high electricity costs.

4. FEEL GOOD ABOUT PROTECTING THE ENVIRONMENT Using solar power means less “brown power” produced by utility companies which means fewer emissions, less pollution, and a cleaner environment.
Most utility companies use coal and natural gas-fired power plants which emit greenhouse gases, nitrogen oxides, sulfur dioxides, radioactive materials, and heavy metals. So, power plants contribute to smog, acid rain, and global warming, affecting public health and our society’s future.
5. INCREASING NATIONAL SECURITY Installing a solar electric system reduces all our dependence on foreign energy.
There is no denying that our nation is becoming more and more reliant on foreign energy sources. The U.S. currently imports the majority of its energy supplies and has imported 166,270 million cubic feet more natural gas every year since 1985.
6. MONEY AND JOBS STAY AT HOME Supporting renewable energy in the U.S. helps to improve our economy by keeping money and jobs at home. These jobs get created when you make the decision to go solar.
The study by Navigant Consulting demonstrated that almost half a million permanent jobs and $232 billion in investment would be supported by the solar energy industry alone if Congress extends the federal tax rebates for solar for 8 years.
7. REDUCTION OF YOUR DEPENDENCE ON THE POWER GRID Solar electric systems are like a power plant on your roof, producing the energy you need clean, smart and efficient.
As 67% of the energy in fossil fuels is lost when it’s converted to electricity it is inefficient, 9-10% is lost as heat when transported to your home. Using solar panels on your prevents wasting energy or money because all the power you make is used in your home.

8. TAKE ADVANTAGE OF SOLAR TAX CREDITS With the combination of state and federal solar tax credits, the cost of your solar electric system is significantly reduced.
Many states offer solar rebates as well, the most generous of which are California, Colorado, Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Jersey, New Mexico, Oregon, and Pennsylvania.
9. NEWLY AFFORDABLE & BETTER TECHNOLOGY SOLAR OPTIONS As companies and local governments become better informed, solar electricity is becoming more and more affordable.
Companies and governments are innovating with financing and programs for homeowners to go solar electric Whether this is a city-sponsored solar loan, a home solar service (PPA), or a solar lease, the various options becoming available reduce upfront costs.
10. SPREAD THE WORD Inspire your neighbors by being the first on your block to install a solar electric system.

Without a doubt, solar energy is the way of the future. Solar energy production is an extremely simple process to understand. A solar, or photovoltaic, cell collects energy from the Sun. A solar cell is a semiconductor device that is constructed using photovoltaic materials. It contains no liquids or chemicals, and no moving parts. Solar cells convert sunlight into electricity.
A solar panel generally consists of a series of individual cells, which are supported by a module that allows the cells to work in unison. The energy that is captured by the panel is stored in a battery. Solar panels generate direct current (DC) energy. Many solar energy systems have inverters in them which allow direct current (DC) electricity to be converted to alternating current (AC). Most consumer products such as appliances and electronics operate on AC current.

Unless you have a vast expanse of land to house an array of solar panels, it is unlikely that you will be able to power your entire home with solar energy. However, it is possible to power a single room in your house with a small array of panels fixed to the roof of your house. Multiply the wattage of each individual electrical device by the number of hours you expect to use them each day. That combined number will be your benchmark, or the bare minimum your system must be able to generate.
There are a number of options available to consumers that are considering converting to solar energy. A basic system that can be used to power a computer and a few other small items can be purchased for approximately $1000.00. Naturally, the price will increase with the production capacity of your system. In most regions, the price of an installed system will cost somewhere in the area of $10.00-$12.00 per watt.
Solar energy is one of a few truly renewable resources that can be used in energy and power generation. Every hour of every day, the Sun blankets our planet with enough energy to sustain our global energy needs for a year. As the technology behind photovoltaic energy advances, consumers will be unable to resist the urge to convert.
A lot of resources are being put into the development of solar energy technology. Most of the major oil and energy companies have entire divisions committed to solar energy. Researchers and engineers are spending countless hours trying to develop the technology today that will vastly improve conditions in the world tomorrow. It is no secret that we cannot continue down the path we are on. Fossil fuels are no longer a feasible option for energy production. The future is solar. The future is now.

At first glance, solar cooling looks like an oxymoron. However, the same energy that can provide heat in the wintertime can also provide cooling during the summer. Several passive cooling systems have been developed and tested. At their simplest, they rely on a coolant that absorbs and dissipates heat from the house. This could be a pool of water on the rooftop which absorbs seat from the inside of the house as it evaporates on exposure to the sun.
More sophisticated passive solar cooling systems have a solar collector which is shaded during the daytime. A storage medium collects heat during the day and dissipates it at night by exposing the solar collector to the cool night air.

Since the solar collector must be shaded, a retractable awning or overhang extension can be installed. Since the system can be reversed in the winter months, it is important that the solar collector can be exposed to sunshine if needed.
Solar panels can also be used to operate traditional air conditioners. As it happens, the periods of intense heat correspond to the periods of peak electricity production from photovoltaic cells. As long as you have solar panels which generate sufficient to electricity, you can operate air conditioners at no cost. Solar cooling that does not take advantage of high technology is another possibility. The Romans used a system of running water to cool down exterior walls of their houses. The heat of the sun causes the water to evaporate and dissipate the heat within the house. This kind of system can be used on walls or on rooftops.
Heating and cooling are two of the biggest expenses for most households. Using solar energy to reduce this expense makes sense financially as well as ecologically. The less dependent we are on fossil fuels for heating and cooling the cleaner the environment will be.
